I ride do some desert as well as trail riding, however, they are usually wide enough (have not tried it yet with the long travel kit installed)

Most listed trails will specify a width that you must be in order to utilize it.

One thing to also keep in mind is while you may be able to fit on the trail, sometimes, turns get too tight and could pose an issue in that sense.
