I posted some pictures of my homemade driven clutch compressor, the rod I used was 5/8 and the bell was a 2" x 3/4", but I think I shimmed it down some if I remember right, Oh and the rod was around 18" inches or so.
You should be able to pick this stuff up at lowes or somewhere for less than $20.00 I would think.
