Default Strange starting issue

Couple of weeks back, I was running the Teryx at night, working spotlight for hogs. Three different times, after shutting the Teryx off, it would just crank, but acted like it had no fire. Then suddenly, it would start. One of those three, I was just about to give up, thinking this thing isn’t going to start. I have never had the problem except that one night excursion.

I do not ride at night very much, so I associated this problem somehow with riding at night. The battery seem to be up to full charge, it was cranking just fine. I have no electrical mods at all, but was using the spotlight most of the time.

Anyone have an idea what was going on here?

not sure if this is related or not but, mine sits for days at a time , when i try to start it, it turns over but will not fire, i put the boost box on and it fires right up. I think there isn't enough juice to fire and crank. I think the batteries in these things are junk.

Mine has done this a few times also but can't say at night only, normally always starts up cold fine, after turning off for a few minutes then try to start to go again it has cranked alot like it is not getting fuel or flooded. I thought maybe because I didn't let it run long enough to get warm, just figured it was the carb acting up a little. Heard about a few people having problems with fuel pumps but I have never had mine apart so I couldn't even tell you where the pump is. Only once I thought it wasn't going to start because it cranked alot but eventually started. Sorry, no help but this is what mine has done to me.

Do you have the Dynatek CDI on there?

Todd...sure do, bought from you. Also your carb kit, but which I think is unrelated. Given it was at night, and was using lights, and the spotlight....wondering if there was just enough drain to cut the spark down. When it did fire...it was immediate, no sputtter etc. Like it never happened.

There is a point at which the CDI will not send a spark anymore, it is call Brown Out Voltage and all aftermarket CDI's are susceptible to this except for our TriFire on the Rhino.

The stock CDI's have a lower brown out voltage therefore they will fire the plug with lower voltage. Sometimes you will notice it will start when you let off the key and the motor is still turning over but the key is in the on position.

Just be careful and not let your battery run low.

That is exactly the way it acted. Seem to start when I let off on the key. Is this reason for a battery upgrade?

I don't know if a battery upgrade will fix it. I like the idea of using the smallest battery that will start the vehicle due to a battery being a power robbing accessory too.

I need to check to see if the X-Static battery we sell will fit in the Teryx, if it does then it would be a great battery for you. They are very efficient and have 800 CC amps.

I don't think so, can't help a spark you are not getting.
