so I want to purchase a new one but I heard that the '09s will be efi. This would be good for going hunting in the high country.
Now if they aren't how do they do with a carb in 7000ft. Do you have to rejet fot the weekend? |

Not if you get Todd's jet kit / box mod from hunterworks. It comes with everything you need including TPI valves which allow you to air jet for elevation changes. The kit really is awesome!!! Pluse he made a full install video on his website.

I am truly doubting that the 2009 will be EFI...I think people are reading too much into those CARB reports.
Nonetheless, there are other ways around re-jetting for altitudes, kits like the Hunterworks, or products like the Dial-a-Jet are a few options.

It is not that the report is not correct. I am just thinking that they were getting the approval to make an EFI, not to actually release one.
I could be wrong as well, but when I spoke to my Kawasaki rep, he told me no EFI for 2009. Guess the only way to know is when it is actually released.

I live in Phoenix, but I took my Teryx up on the rim (7000 ft) to go camping over the summer. I didn't rejet it, and at that altitude it took it a minute to startup, it definately lost some performance, but it ran just fine and was perfectly reilable. AND I still had no problem keeping up with (stock) Rhinos!
Just make sure you give it a minute to warm up before moving it anywere. |

If you are going to constantly be making drastic altitude changes with your utv, then it may be better for you to wait until the Teryx is fuel injected, or perhaps look into another UTV, such as a Rhino. Don't get me wrong, while I do love my Teryx, every utv has different benefits and faults.
I don't make a ton of altitude changes with it. I ride mountains only during the summer, the rest of the year is desert, so jetting wasn't a huge concern for me. Definately shop around. Here is a site that I found very useful. UTV Guide - UTV Model Comparison |
