Default belt system

It seems pointless to carry an extra teryx belt as replacement out on the trail seems crazy.Would simply adding a stiffer secondary spring help with reliability?I ride in very remote areas miles from the truck and reliability is a huge priority.

thanks

Grit,

I don't suggest just a secondary spring change. Either leave it be or put your clutch kit of choice and my only choice would be a Dalton.

The group I ride with have been running Prairies and Brute Forces since 03, the major failure of belts in our experience has been from a too high load on the belt, getting in deep mud and not using low range will put alot pressure on the belt, running wide open for long distances builds alot of heat in them to and causes them to fail.
As long as you keep the deflection in specs, and use low range when you are in a bind, like climbing a hill and stopping half way, or going through deep sticky mud, you should'nt have any problem.

No, not quite that simple. Call EPI and talk to a tech rep if you want to hear the detailed explanation. I am not talking down about the Dalton products, just voicing our experience with EPI and their products. Have you seen the CVT clutch tuning book written by AAEN performance? Well, before AAEN was started, he worked for Glenn, the owner of EPI. EPI has been doing this a very long time. Instead of piece-mealing it with the spring only, I would get the whole kit.

We sell EPI belts but not clutch kits. I am sure the Teryx kit they have is fine but the issue I have is they have no less than about 8 kits for a Rhino and none do anything. We tested every kit they had plus made our own out of their parts and the stock stuff outperformed every time.

Talked with Dalton and asked why they didn't do a Rhino kit and Dale said because they didn't do any good for the Rhino which is the result we got.

After buying all the kits and looking in them and they were the same kits for the most part with a different name on them and the fact they didn't do anything for the Rhino made me lose confidence in EPI on clutch kits and made me feel they were just throwing something in a box to make a profit. Again I say I am sure the one for the Teryx is fine but for me personally we simply lost faith and it is hard to get it back.

We do know the Dalton kit for the Teryx does well and is adjustable.

I agree never mix clutch parts, they are designed to work together.

By the way this is not meant to bash EPI or praise Dalton just telling our experience.

Kind of like my Dad had a lemon Ford back in the late 70's and I won't buy a Ford.

Hehehe. That just made me picture a pale blue Pinto wagon, with wood panels down the side.

Proper deflection maintenance is extremely important to the Teryx. But with that said, I think the clutch kit was a mod as good as any other mod I have done. My top 3 are, HW Carb Kit, Dalton Clutch Kit/Cap and Muzzy's exhaust.

I am running the Dalton kit and LOVE it. MUCH better than the stock setup. I rarely use H, most all the riding I do is in low, except for the high speed dirt road riding we sometimes do. The kit comes with 2 to choose between primary and a secondary spring as well as some very high quality adjustable flyweights. If you look at the youtube site in my signature and watch part 2 of the Dalton Clutch Kit install, you can see how easy it is to install and setup.

I have been running the Dalton kit for over 315 miles/25 hours with a mix between put putting around on my steep property at 5 or so MPH and FAST trail riding in the mountains. What the kit has done for me is:
Better and much more positive clutch engagement, MUCH easier on the belt than the stock setup IMHO. Much better back shifting of the clutch when for instance you have to really stomp the brakes with the stock setup, I would have to gas it to get the clutch to re-engage, with the Dalton, it is ready to rock on smoothly when I get back on the gas from the hard braking WITHOUT disengaging! I also do not smell hot belt like I used to with the factory setup.

Also, the fact that the Dalton is also sold as a factory add-on and will not void your warranty is something that I take very seriously. Last thing is that when I had a few questions, I could call Dale Dalton and get quick and truthful and correct answers. He is like the Todd of the clutch world and calls it like he sees it, no BS.

I ride fast and in some extreme places and I honestly feel the Dalton kit has made me a lot more competitive with the guys on racing and tricked out ATV's I ride with as well as give me more confidence to try things I would have been imtimidated to do with the stock clutch, like very technical STEEP places I have to stop and restart on. With the stock setup, it was extremely easy to smoke a belt. Not any more with the Dalton kit.

My friends can tell a difference in how my machine runs with the Dalton Clutch kit. If you want to talk on the phone to me or any of the guys I ride with about how competitive my Teryx is on the trails, PM me and I will be happy to make it happen.

You are correct Tee... I have the Dynatek CDI and also the Dynatek Coils. Whoops, thank you for pointing that out. They do make a huge difference especially coupled with the 3 I listed. <blush>
