Default Free gearing

For those who are all buying clutch caps or dalton clutch covers you can do this mod for basically free.

If you look at the stock cover you can see where the spider bottoms out on the cover... If you take 2 washers for each 10mm bolt on the cover and shim out the cover away from the spider where it won't hit you'll gain 11mph in high range on a teryx for basically free.

I've done this on all my brutes but have just now gotten around to doing it on my 820 teryx because of not wanting to take the belt cover off and not knowing how much it would help on a teryx clutch... Top speed went from 61mph to 72mph on the limiter at 9200rpm.

FST has posted this info before. Great trick although a stock car wont see those kinda gains as it wont rev to 9200 RPM. Our clutch cap on a stock car with ignition gained an EASY 4mph and would have gone faster with more room.

How thick are the washers?

Total amount ends up being the same amount most people machine their caps to. All of these methods will give in the same gains. We did not feel comfortable machining material off of the stock cast cap. So we made a full billet cap.

The washer trick will work but there are issues.

Rarely will you find two washers the same thickness and weight.

It will cause balance issues and pressure points on the spider due to it not being perfectly flat.

Go billet for built motors and machined stock ones for stock motors.

1/4" washers and takes two per bolt. Once you get the cover off you can slide the clutch together and sit the cover down and see how much space needs to be taken out so it won't hit.

The cover will sit fine and it won't be out of balance... been running the same thing on my brute for over a year now with an 840 that makes more power than my 820 teryx.

Though the two vendors posting will try to tell you different.

?????? ..... HOW DID I TELL DIFFERENT? Please read my post again. This is a old tip and has been posted beforeA again ..... ALL OF THESE WILL GIVE YOU THE SAME GAINS. We would never put washer there to space out the cap. We did not feel comfortable machining material off of the stock cast cap. So we made a full billet cap. If you want to throw some washers in there by all means GO FOR IT. Is it better then a billet cap? ... NO. Is it stronger then a billet cap? ...... NO. Will it cool better like our billet cap? ..... NO. Is it cheaper ..... HELL YEAH.
