We raced them when we first got them back and my bike would put 1.5 bikes on yours out of the hole but your bike would come back and pass on top. At first i blamed it on my heavy ass bi/tri claw tires but i still knew better for as many standard bore/big bore brutes i've done... Took the carbs a part and i reckon i got in a hurry and my front cyl had a drilled jet and my rear one had the 155 I had back when the bike was stock with a few holes in the lid. After that there was no pulling back on top.
Standard bores are all the power you need but the torque and the power the 840's make is what get the adrenaline going.

Hi Shan, yes I remember you, glad you made it home safe and sound after driving all night. Thank you for the info, that STD Bore runs a lot better than stock, my 09 is a dog compared to it. I need to get my adrenalin going I guess with an 840.

they are cheaper because you dont need to bore and nikasil the cylinders so you save 500 dollars

The standard bores are fine, and a lot cheaper. I think if I wanted more low end grunt, I would do the 840 with the stage 2 cams - higher torque lower rpm, could be wrong, but I think it would have more low end torque, stage 3 cams are for more top end, that is just my opinion. I had looked at other places for prices and FST Mickey can't be beat, sorry....just the plain fact!
I have the 840 with nothing else but muzzy's, so I am missing out on top end with stock clutch, just don't want to do any more work to it. Of course I have the 08, so also have a carb kit and TPI valves from Hunterworks.
Oh yeah, just thought I'd add this...still stock factory belt and close to 2,000 miles....
How do I like it, well I damn near shit my pants after getting her broke in and opening her up, I am serious. I've got 1,200 miles on the 840 and I beat the ever living piss outa mine...
Not one problem....yet.

Wells what odd is the Std bore kit from Fundy is approx. $1550 while Mickey's 840 kit comes to approx. the same, maybe even a little less. So what gives there?

$1328 for a 840 with the cylinders done.I have seen guys that paid that price for a std bore, then tried to sell them at the very low price of $1000. They couldn't understand why no one would take it for that. Might have something to do with my retail price still $150 less then that, let alone members pricing. I will admit prices are going up here soon.

840 all the way.
I drove my 840 very hard this past weekend at superstition mountain. As some of my rhino buddies said "The 840 is a beast". This thing flat out hauls a$$ and climbs hills, soft steep sand no problem. Actually, I had alot of spectators coming up and asking what do I have in this thing to make it climb so good.
However next trip at Thanksgiving, I will have my new DASA pipe for the BBk installed so I can get full advantage of my ported heads and a little more improvement.
I will admit with the 840, I have had to add some extra's to make sure not to overheat, BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY !!!! I am now running at 200 to 210 degrees full throttle climbing hills in the desert sand.
If I had to do it over again, I would still do the 840 BBK, NO QUESTION !!

I'm not questioning reliability of the 840 at all. In fact I was settled on spending the $$$ on the 840, but I have an interesting offer on the table for a Std kit. So I'm trying to educate myself and make sure I don't regret it.

3 months ago I was in EXACTLY the same place you are now. There is only 1 way I know how not to regret your decision. GO BIG ! You will not regret that choice. You MAY regret any other choice because in the back of your mind you will always wondering what if, what if. How many times to you want to build your motor? once....twice ...or ? Do the 840 and forget it! this is just my 2 cents.

This is true, but the Std kit would practically be free other than installation...
