OK the site is pretty dead now. Who would win in a drag race ? Teryx 840 AMR or FST VS 1000 Comandor Can-am? Todd , you have test drove the Can-am so would it out run the 840 kit you sell?

The feed back I got from the magazine guys that have run my 08' and 09' 840s with stock carbs and T/B with no porting say they will walk the dog on all the Can-Ams,but in the woods the Can-Am's out handle the Teryx bad.They also say the Can-Am did a great job with all the details of what people want.

I am really not sure, the last time I drove a Commander back in April, the clutching was off and it had a limiter of 70.

Now the clutching has been fixed and I think there is no limiter. I need to find out about the limiter.


I guess if I was betting I would say the 840 cause the crank HP on the Commander is 85 and would guess the crank hp on a properly set up 840 would be well over a 100hp.

I would still take the commander though at this point, guess cause it is the newest thing.

My favorite UTV's are the Teryx and the Commander.

Id say a properly tuned 840 will take it. I can outrun a Can Am 800 quad in 300' and be even with one at 500'. I know the 1000 is around 15 more hp than the 800 but it also 600lbs heavier than thier 800 quad!!

I have a 2 1/2 year old 840........in a 500ft run,I will beat it,at least 100ft.

I would love to line up against a 1000 Can-am. I cant for the life of me imagine a stock production machine as fast as my 840. I mean when I climb long STEEP hills I have to LET OFF or I will jump the path that I am on. Before with exhaust, cdi , intake and clutch kit on the same hill would peg the gas and lose power by the time I reached the top. I dont think alot of people realize the difference the 840 makes when it is tuned properlly and has all the supporting mods.. The power diffrence is insane. More than doubles the rear wheel hp. And tripples the seat of the pants feel

I'm sure they are a good machine,but,I don't think they will out run a smaller built motor( ie. 840 teryx ) ,just because they are 1000 cc.Remember,the epa,carb,and other government agency,still have control on the throttle,with stock machines

You say that but they're just now getting the ATV's to run as fast as 840 brutes... Having to do it with a lot more CC's as well... all the way up to 1004.

Apparently can-am made the commander a 1000 with all stroke... which if they actually did that is going to be pretty cool to see how they made the room in the motor and would leave quite a bit more room for a bigger bore. Though it certainly won't be as cheap as a Teryx build atleast the 08 model anyway.
