Little Sahara Dunes in OK Report

I forgot to report back on the Little Sahara Dune in Oklahoma trip over the 4th. I was told that I could be disappointed since I have been to some of the larger dune around the country, However on the contrary!

The Little Sahara Dunes are located just outside Waynoka, OK. The dune field is 1600 acres that is long and narrow with some large dunes in the center. The sand if very fine like the Coral Pinks in UT. There are lots of trails along the edge with high banking corners. The trails were lots of fun to ride like a roller coaster. Right in the middle of the dunes there was a wet lands area, complete with bull frogs.

The Park has great facilities, hookups for RV's, showers and bathrooms and vending machines. The days we were there, June 30 and July 1 we road for free, because the week before they had a Dune Fest and there were no park attendants to collect. Normally it is a $7.00 per day per person which would be well worth it. Also there is a trail which leads from town all the way to the dunes from the motels. So you can hop on your machine and just ride from town if you like.

We met 5 or 6 members from my kxriders.com web site there and had a great time!

That is on my list to do's but haven't made it yet. Thanks for the report now I want to go even more.

I have never been there, however, have heard great things. I would like to get there someday though. Judging by the smile on the young ladies face in the passenger seat, I would say it looks as though it was a great trip

We were in Waynoka for the East Meets West Roostfest back in 2001 - the 2nd week of September, 2001. yeah - That was quite a trip to be so far from home and have 9/11 happen. Luckily my buddy Mike who works for Qualcomm happened to borrow a sat phone from work for the trip, so we were able to get around the tie ups of the phone networks with everyone overloading circuits trying to call everyone.
