Riding at ATV Skool in Ohio, Sept 26-27

About a month ago, I spent a day riding at ATV Skool. They’re located in north-east Ohio, between Cleveland and Youngstown. As anyone who lives in Ohio knows, there are not many places open in Ohio to ride anymore. So I was excited to check out what ATV Skool had to offer.

ATV Skool is situated on 1500 acres. It’s an old sand & gravel pit, and there’s an unbelievable variety of terrain available for riding. You can ride typical wooded trails (some dry, some muddy), ride the upper rim trail atop an 80 ft high cliff (looking down into the old mine area), trek down to the river (for the more serious mudders), take a ride around a large scenic lake (great place to picnic), tackle rock climbs (some rocks are as large as a UTV) and there are large areas of sand too. I spent the entire day riding and was never bored.

The trails are spread out over the 1500 acres so that you can go off and ride at your own pace. You’ll pass people along the trail, but won’t be crowded into traffic on the trail like sometimes happens at the larger Poker Runs with a single-track trail.

ATV Skool has a nice little campground area with a new pavilion and bathhouse, lakes for fishing and a gun range as well. The gun range was littered with burned-out Jeeps from their July 4th “Fireworks” (they believe in heavy ammunition, not Chinese bottle rockets, to celebrate America’s independence).

ATV Skool requires that every first-time rider attend their “Skool”, where they go over all of their rules. Their strict adherence to these rules and the friendly trail guides (thanks Pops) throughout the park create a great family atmosphere.

If you want to check it out, you’ll need to go to www.atvskool.com and register as a forum member (it’s free). You’ll find instruction on the forum that instruct you where to meet before they open the gates.

The next ATV Skool is scheduled for September 26 & 27. Although I missed their August ride, I’m planning to take my family, camp overnight and ride both days in September. I’d encourage anyone who has either (or both) of these dates open to come out and join us. In fact, drop me a quick e-mail if you plan to go, and we can all meet up and ride together.

Hope to see you there,
