Winch - Viper or Warn

Those that have the Viper 4000# winch (or other) how is it working out? I'm considering the one shown here from Ebay eBay Motors: VIPER Max 4500lb ATV/UTV Winch w/Steel Cable & Roller (item 220307401997 end time Nov-08-08 22:09:04 PST) I have experience with warns on my truck & they are flawless. But the one on the teryx, I'm not sure I wanna sink a bunch of cash into. I'm not even really sure what I would need it for, other than just knowing it's their if I need/wanted it.

Getting some input from you guys on this model would be great.
thanks.

I have used several viper winches. I have one for a rhino, a scrambler, and teryx. They work great. The price is about half of what a warn winch will cost. Get a cover for the winch if you can, I have had a little trouble with the cable sticking due to being at the sand dunes, and the mud.

What cable are you running, steel or the synthetic ? I wonder if that would make any difference.

I am running the stock steel cable. The thing is that even with washing the machine, the salt water and air still seem to get to the cable. The only thing that I have done to fix this is to unwind the cable, spray the heck out of it with wd-40 and the problem is fixed. I only do this a couple of times each year.

The synthetic cable is definately something nice to have. If it were to break it just drops to the ground, in addition, you can see it a lot better at night and it even floats...just a few things to think about. I have not used the viper but have heard good things about them as well as the posts you see above.

Exactly what I have, used it numerous times...no problems, I did switch to the synthetic rope and like it much better, but even the rope can bind in the spindle and stick. I've had several winches and would not hesitate to buy this model again...I also bought mine from MOTO-Alliance.

I also have the 4K Viper with the steel cable. It has worked well when I needed it. No problems with it so far although like Teee-rible said, you can bind it up if you are not careful and keep tension on the cable when you wind it up. After I use it, I also spray it with WD40, then hook it to a tree and drag my Teryx to the tree winding it in so it stays tight on the spindle. If I do this each time I wind it back up, I have no issues with it andit is always ready to go. I am considering upgrading to the synthetic cable to make it easier.
