Question Winches ?

My next purchase is going to be a winch. I understand buying quality and getting what you pay for. But am having a hard time justifying 500 or more on a Warn RT40. I 'd like to know if anybody has tried or knows if the new Viper winches are worth trying or should I stick with the already proven Warn ?

4x4dad,

Take a look at the new Bear Claw 3500 HD on our site, I can't find a thing wrong with it.

Is 3500lbs big enough for this heavy beast? I know we get into some thick mud or even the river sand that has a pretty good suction on things. I would also like to purchase a winch but a little worried about 3500 or even the 4000lb winches being enough.

pikester,

It does not come with a Teryx mount

jlbierig450r,

A 3000lb is enough. You are supposed to double your vehicle weight so that puts you right at 3000lb winch. We sell 99% 3000lb winches and no trouble that I am aware of and if you need more then use a snatch block which is included with the Bear Claw then you have a 7000lb winch!!!

Thank you for your advice everyone. I'm also worried about a 3500 not having enough when I get into a bad situation. Todd, I believe it was your site that explains the reduction in pull power as you get more wraps on the drum. They all seem to drop quickly with each wrap. I'll be mounting this on my Warn bumper. Will the Bear Claw use my mounting holes or will I have to use an adapter ?

Your review on the winch seems pretty fair for the price. By the way , thank you for such an informative web site at Hunterworks. Your info on your products and your (philosophies) make things much easier for those of us doing this for the first time.
