Engine Braking

This is my 3rd ATV/UTV with the CVT type tranny. The 2 quads I have had, the engine braking in reverse and low range was instant from a crawl or creeping down a rocky section (move a little, stop, move a little stop, etc.) My '08 Teryx in low range and reverse seems to free wheel a little then the enginge braking activates, or I have to give it a little gas to get it to activate. Is this normal for these? Hope I made sense with what it is doing? BTW it only has about 22-25 hrs. on it.

Both my Brute Force and V-Force didn't seem to work under 10 MPH. Both would kick out and if I let it coast, as soon as it got 8-10 MPH, it would kick in. I know the first time I came down a steep hill in 2 lo and the braking kicked in as it hit 10 MPH, things got REAL UGLY real fast.

Kawie CVT's supply true engine braking down to somewhere around 5 mph then the electronic engine brake control (KEBC) takes over. You can remove the KEBC with a little rewiring, I have done it to my Prairie and several Brute Forces and it works great (it feels more controllable to me) but you will free wheel at speeds below approx 5 mph. Ablip on the throttle usually will bring it back. If you had a Polaris or Yamaha, their CVT's are set up different. All work good, I'm just partial to Kawies.

I have had a 660 Grizzly and now have a 700 king quad. I prefer the set up on them over the Kawi. They hold back regardless of speed.
