what started fire????

the dealer called and said they can not figure out what started the fire..... I am attatching a couple pics . 1 is 1 of 2 peices of burnt rubber I found under the front exhaust tube on the skid plate. the other is a pic down between the shifter and the plastic ( pulled back) you can see the melted hole in the vent, melted throttle cable, melted plug wire, etc.... sorry about the sand..... just started dumping sand on it to put fire out....... oh yeahanybody know where to get a compact fire extinguisher at a descent price only one I can find in my small town in at the parts store of $90... I thought that was a little unreal but if thats what the compacts go for???!

That is a rubber protector / shield (for lack of better words), there are a couple of them around the machine. Look behing your seats, you will see one on either side attached to the bed to cover the gap.

Bet you got something burnable on to the front header. I get trash caught there and had an almost serious fire there…but also had several ‘smoking’ issues of trash smoldering off the header. Seems to me to be a bit of design issue.

Having said that....here is our earlier link to this.....

http://www.teryxhq.com/forums/kawasa...1151-fire.html

I have seen one of my buddies run over a small potato chip bag, it stuck to his header or pipes somewhere and it caught fire, and started a fire on his shrouding.

My fire was related to sticking my T-shirt down the side of the seat and trying to cover up the heat from the center console, forgot about it and high tailing down the road...we smelled smoke. Shirt had sucked between the bed and cab....and shirt touched the header....needn't explain anymore...

The location where yours seems to be....in my opinion....appears to be from debris building up there.

I bought a $5.99 small spray can fire ext and put in glovebox (it's about the size of those Canned air dust removing type of spray), I also mounted a $19.99 fire ext from Lowes, on the rear of my rollbar, hopefully...will never need it.

Yep I agree debris from some sort, either from shop installing parts or from mother nature. Back here in the eastern woods I noticed several times that mine or one of my buddies teryx had a glowing red area in the motor area down low. Upon further inspection we found dry leaves in there on fire, luckily they burned themselves out before causing any damage.

oh I got the 2.5 ld extinguishers with nice metal mounts: 1 from the saw shop and 1 was given to me by a rhino dude named Mark-O- that heard about my fire..... so even rhino guys are cool... just not as fast...... sorry mark-o- you know it's true

Last edited by sandmankrohn; 03-14-2009 at 09:25 PM. Reason: added extinguisher info
