Shorter tires Question

Ok, I am currently running 26" ITP Sand Stars, and AMS Blacktails on my Teryx in the sand. Yes, I know that Skat-Traks are the best, but they are a rip off.

We go down to the Dunes here in Utah quite often as well as a couple trips to the bigger dunes in St. Anthony, ID. I like the way what I have works, but here is the big HOWEVER.

Whoever invented the Checker HID's is now my best friend. We love to go night riding at the dunes now. But we seem to end up on a lot of trails and in ID there is a lot of Lava rock there. I am a fraid i am going to cut a tire, and end up stranded in the middle of nowhere at 2:00 in the morning.

So, now to my question. I hear that the Carlisle 489's are the ticket, but what size?
Do I stay with like a 25", or can I go down to a 24" and gain some wheel speed?

I dont think that going down to 25's will be horrible but your going to definetly loose speed I think that if it were me I would go a little larger in tire and make some power or clutch mods

So what would be the downside of running 24" tires in the dunes?

I don't see ground clearance being an issue?

for me it would be top speed, ya you'll be able to spin them up but you will top out alot quicker. thats why I would get something to get rid of the govenor and a clutch kit to help use all the tork that the motor has and run it. these motors are already fairly torkey being a v twin
