Jumping out of gear issue fix????

Got a call from a customer who had a 08 Teryx who was jumping out of gear constantly and he was told it was a shifter linkage adjustment.

Just after his 6 month warranty went out the transmission bit the dust. After further investigation it was figured out there was a washer or spacer missing from the factory between two gears in the transmission.

I don't know which one or where just passing on info I got. I can't say how accurate this info is either.

mine needs adjustment right now second time in 85 hours of use. I found on last trip when I made some hard hits my gears would start grinding biiiig time. i would have to stop take it outta gear then re-engage before it operated normal. that reminds me i need to adjust linkage..

The guy who called didn't know which washer it was. I looked at the transmission diagram and saw several that it could be.

The way he described it because of the missing washer or spacer the two gears would be trying to get engaged at the at the same time or something like that.

I guess the point I would make to a dealer is. If my Teryx jumping out of gear and making lots of noise and adjustment does not fix it then you need to get inside this.

I would contact Kawasaki directly too. They may not know this. If I knew someone there I would call but I don't.

Kawasaki Knows!

I had the problem and adjusted the linkage and it worked for a little while, but didn't last. The dealer (Jet Ski Unlimited) warrantied everything new case new bearing new gears and it is working great now. The manager told me that Kawasaki knows about the shim problem and they are making a bracket to keep the secondary shaft from breaking the case, supposidly.

thats funny you say that because my dealer said that kawasaki hadnt heard that and the only ones that have had problems are the ones that have been abused I say bull shit they are replacing trannys lert and right mine is now making noises in the front drive shaft I think Its the noise transfering from the tranny that sounds like its going to explode took it once and the dealer said they couldnt hear the noise so went and got it and put 10 miles on it and now they can deffinitaly hear the gear mesh and bearing noise waiting to hear from them tommarow not impressed at all only 93 hrs on teryx

I do believe there is a issue that is more than adjustment for sure. I suppose the right button have to be pushed. Due to cost they probably don't want to admit the issue.

Maybe some of those lawyers making Yamaha jump thru hoops should jump on Kawasaki!!! LOL!!

One washer is behind #3 gear in the pic that has the two half moon needle brg. under it, but there should be one on the inside of #3 also and that is the one that is missing. Jumping out of gear issue fix????-teryx-gear-box.jpg
