Hooking up my winch today, what a dilemma, anybody know where extra hot wire is by cdi box or fuse box? I would rather not splice wiring, so just checking to see how other people wired theirs, I have everything complete except where to hook up this wire, any help would be greatly appreciated. On a humorous note when I pulled the fuse box cover...low and behold the is a fuse for HORN... go figure. Thanks for any tips.

No, the red wire is from the out/in switch that goes to the contact solenoid (kinda like a relay) for the winch, if I ran that wire to the battery, my battery would drain. The manufacturer suggest to wire to the ignition switch hot wire. It has to be a hot wire that only becomes live after ignition. Again, I know I can splice it into several wires...ya know I just thought there would be hotwires piggybacked out of the fusebox or accessory some where, my best choice would be to find a female or male blade just waiting to be used.

Hmmm well here is something to keep in mind...if you wire it only to be live after ignition takes place, let me just bring up something.
Say you do a deep water crossing and cause ignition problems...now you are stuck, vehicle will not start, a direct connection to the battery would allow you to still use your winch.
Maybe these atv winches are different than the ones we ran in our trucks, however, if I remember correctly, I thought they were all ran direct to the battery. Hmm now I am confusing myself.
Yes the winches we use in our truck "usually" have the solenoid built into them. The red wire I am inferring to only energizes the contactor coil for the winch.
No I said YOU were stuck due to the vehicle not starting because of an ignition problem...the vehicle is fine where it is at, you will be the one who is not going anywhere
Point well taken, I believe I am going to just wire off from the mysterious "horn" fuse. I hooked my contactor next to my battery cause I wanted to keep everything where it would not get muddy and hidden...so I assumed there were extra hot wire waiting to be used, two of my other 4x4 had all kinds of extra accessory wires out of the fuse box.

I just have to get the little over to swim lessons and as soon as I get home, I will get you the wiring...hopefully it will help you achieve what you are looking for!
Did anyone find a good spot> I am wiring mine now getting ready for the spring mud. I too have always placed the control switch on the ignition side. It keeps from accidentally activating the winch. This is a big plus for remote systems. Even if the Teryx is not running you can still use the winch. The battery might not last too long though.
I did a how to article on the winch install last year. It shows photos of which wires I tapped into. Look it up in the how to articles. You will need Adobe Reader to access the photos.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!! For some reason I could not find that section.
