front differential problem.

I have read a few posts of people burning up the bushing in their front diff, usually using a dyno. I havent read if people are having issues, say spinning in muddy trails in 2wd and moving slow. I know the front differential says to use engine oil, but i wonder if a synthetic gear oil would stop some of the problems. My king quad uses gear oil in front and I use royal purple synthetic. I am only concerned because of muddy conditions at a recent ride and I rembered the trouble people had on the dyno and the front tires not turning and moving the oil around. Gear oil is a little thicker and my stay on the bushing longer. Any insight on this idea or experience? thanks.

Tight tolerances in the front diff on a kawie and the clutch basket make it require engine oil... Gear oil would be to thick and would cause issues.

I don't think it would help anyway. I have not heard of anyone having a issue except on a dyno.

When on a dyno, disconnect the front drive shaft. Requires no tools.

The latest FSM says to add gear oil. I put gear oil in mine when I rebuilt it

You are supposed to disconnect the front drive shaft on the dyno.
It only takes a couple of minutes.

I never plan on dynoing my teryx. I was just worried about excessive rear wheel spin in 2 wheel drive and moving slow. Like sliding sideways in the mud, playing around in 2wd. Owl what is a fsm? I would think if gear oil is ok for the rear brake pack that it would be ok for the front dif clutch basket. If thats what is in there. I havent looked at a part breakdown of it yet but will immidiately. Thanks for the replies.

The rear takes hydraulic fluid if I am not mistaken.

Hunterworks I realize the rear takes hyd fluid. Thats why I dont see why the front wouldnt be ok with it. The front has a clutch pack for the difflock, as opposed to a gear lock. Im just trying to find out if it would make a difference as to the bushing that melts. Owl said the latest fsm says gear oil. I dont know what that is but i am due to change my diff fluids so I will probably try gear oil.

Maybe I am missing something but I was thinking you thought gear oil and hydraulic fluid were the same.

If it happens on a dyno, what about snow/ice? we do a lot of that in the winter around here.

Is this on the 08s and 09s where this problem is occuring, and is there a preventitive measure one can take?
