Which winch?

I have an 09 Sport and need a winch- Looking at a Warn RT30 or maybe a Viper Classic- Can't beat the price there, but the lifetime warranty on the Warn sure looks good next to 6 mos. on the Viper...Any recommendations? I ride in the Pacific NW, so it will definitely be getting wet...

Well I can speak for the Viper, it pulls and performs great. I have although only had it out a couple times since I bought it. Warn winches I believe you have to go to a minimum 3500 lb to get steel gears, anything less has plastic gears. I have a couple buddies who stripped theirs out, so I do know this for a fact. You can upgrade and buy the steel gears but you shouldn't have to. Viper is represented here by our newest sponsor, Motoalliance. I am sure he will chime in if he catches the thread.

For me the price was the kicker. I had a Viper 4500 with synthetic line to my door (northern Alberta) for around $400, as close as I could get to an equivilent Warn was a 4000lb cost was 950ish and it was in town. I could go through 2 Vipers for the cost of a warn up here, or run two, one front and one rear. It was an easy choice.

Still mulling over which winch to get- Now I've found some sweet prices on the Gorilla winches, now called Promark I believe. Anyone have any comments on them? The price can't be beat, they have all steel gears and are waterproof....

I do a lot of mud riding and I had a warn winch. The warn 4000lb was expensive and the warranty is a joke. We broke our warn winch the second time we used it. Also, warn didn’t pull well at all and warranty didn't cover it. We are currently using the venom 4500; it comes with rubber bump stop, mounting plate, all wiring, 10' remote cable, 50' of galvanized winch cable, 50' of synthetic winch rope for replacement, two different roller fairleads, snatch block and a one year warranty. This cost me $260.00 to the door off eBay. It has out pulled the warn winch and out lasted warn. Though, it is slower than warn, it hasn't broke yet. The price for warn is outrageous and in my opinion old news. I would go with the venom 4500. Also, the viper is the same as venom. We have a few guys running the viper 4500 and it is just as good as the venom. So get the viper or the venom, and forget about warn. Remember, if the viper or venom winch break and the warranty doesn’t cover it…you can always buy a replacement and still be cheaper than warn. Gorilla, last I checked, just sells warn winches and doesn’t make their own winch.

Hey guys,
Thanks for looking at Viper. Just so you know we have all metal gears on all of our winches. We compete well with the pulling power of Warn. We have sold thousands of Vipers and have a lot of happy customers and good feedback.
I will tell you Venom and Viper and not the same winch or company. You can learn more here. We have different products and philosophies.

Let me know if you have other questions. Feel free to PM or call.

Are there any plastic parts (ie all metal moving parts) in the Viper besides the cases?
How about Warn?

Internals are metal. Depends on the size of the winch. Some have combo of plastic and metal casing, larger winches and Elites are metal. Let me know if you have any other questions.
