09 beats 08 every time stock to stock from zero to top speed. Top speed is 5mph faster on 09 too.

The 09 does not have a timing retard under 5mph like the 08 but still has one above 7000 rpm.

I have an 08 and my dad has an 09.... so we have run together quite a bit and compleatly stock to stock he got off the line a little quicker but not much! Now that i have quite a few mods done to mine his cant hang any more .... And from what i gather it is a lot cheaper to make a 08 faster.. but thats just what Ive heard... This is an old pic of them both...

Cheaper slightly, quicker no way with small mods.

Example:

08 CDI and jet kit with TPI valve so you get a ignition, fuel and air change $335

09 MSD ignition/fuel controller $425

clutch kit same price, muzzy same price, overdrive plate same price.

Top speed on our 08 was 59 on GPS with these mods and our 09 was 67 and much quicker to the line.

With the MSD we were able to really get the spark and fuel like we wanted so it really helped the 09 better than a non-programmable CDI and jet kit that is finicky.

So from this analogy, you would spend $90 more on somewhat similar mods and much quicker Teryx plus the MSD is so much adjustable than a non-programmable CDI and jet kits.

I suppose the point is your looking to buy one, I would spring for the 09 no questions asked. Several upgrades worth having on the 09 and fuel injection is some kind of nice!!

That helps me make up my mind. I have found in past purchases, if you dont buy what you really want the first time you will probably trade up later and cost you more money. Its about $2200 can more for the brand new 2009. Thanks for all your help guys

Power will likely be the same...the only difference will be the fact that the '09 has EFI. If you can, get the EFI.

I'm glad you posted up some good info.

We just have had the opportunity to own both, dyno them, and compare numbers directly. This is part of what we do.

I don't think too much information from several guys is a bad thing.

You forgot one key point Todd. The base price of an 08 is over $1,000 cheaper and that covers the parts for a motor kit (no install).
