teryx first ride impresions

well today is the first time i have been on a teryx. (2008 camo LE model) there is difinitely more good to say than bad. This utv is a blast to drive, it handles great. we were driving through narrow bush trails and i did not slow down for much. I had a little trouble crossing a creek and got the belt wet wasnt to happy about that. my brother has a 2010 ranger xp 800 and from a dead start its pretty even for a 100 feet then he passes me, not to happy about that either. So if anyone has any idea on how to fix these problems i would appreciate some info. (govenor cutting out at 50 mph really sucks)

Get a VDI or Dyna CDI and pull the spart arrestor out of the exhaust (put on a steel tip for looks) for under $400.
A motor kit and a full exhaust will put you ahead when you want more power.
The 09 CVT exhaust pipe is not that expensive and higher.
OD plate on the clutch gives you 5-7 mph at the top end.

Its all about what you want to do with it and how quiet it is going to be. The aftermarket CDI is the best quiet bang for the buck. It is noticable, especially at the low end with the timing getting advanced and premium helps on the more advanced curve. Your local dealer or a vendor on this site can help you out.

Bring it back stock for warranty. Its just easier.

Watch your carb boots or buy the plenum rings for around $20 on here with the 08.

Be careful with duty fees, if you are shipping across the border. It can be great or brutal bad. No real reason from my experience.

I bet there are a few good muzzy exhausts with low use going on sale with the Pro version and DASA having BBK (big bore kit) exhausts coming out.

Slip on exhaust cans make similar hp to pulling out the stock exhaust arrestor (within 1 hp). Save your money for the full exhaust or keep the stock one.

thanks for the good info. do you have any issues with your belt getting wet, possibly the 09 would be a better choice maybe some of these issues are fixed. any issues with hards starting when temp is up with aftermarket cdi. had some problems with king quad not starting good when temp was up ended up blowing the motor.

Starting issues seemed to be linked to battery strength.
Blown motor? Too much advanced timing with regular gas or?

Stock battery is garbage really... My teryx would never start in cold weather as the battery was always way to weak. Yellow top optima fixed that.

Dynatek would be the first thing i would get as its plug and play and makes a huge difference especially on take off. You can find them anywhere from 175-200 bucks.

The motor is there to out run the ranger but the way kawasaki corked up the 2008's they are pretty much dogs. If you open up the air box lid some with TPI valves or just drilling holes in the top and re-jet it for the extra air flow the bike will run wayyyyyy different. This same motor in a brute force runs 152-158 jets where in the teryx they're only running in the 130's because the motor simply can't breath.

No air no fuel no power.

Yeah, don't go in water deeper than your knees when sitting in the driver's seat.. or you could do the cheap snorkle fix.
