Oil

What oil does everyone use in their Teryx.,.. it is now getting cold here, so I will run a little lighter oil. Do you recommend a multigrade such as a 5 30 or the like? Or should I go and get some amsoil, or synthetic?

We run Yamalube in everything.

Since the Teryx does not have a wet clutch I can't see how what oil you use makes a difference but I am sure someone will correct me on that.

Go with what your manual says.

I use 10w40 year around.

Could be the 40w oil as for using it.

Could be a installation error like not getting the rings spaced around correctly or not broke in.

Could be valve seals

Could be getting sucked into intake

Just a 1/4 is probably it puking oil and even with a catch can some is making it back into the intake and burning it under high loads/hills where you would never really see it. Wouldn't worry yourself over it really.

I run 15-50 or a 20-50 in the summer time but in winter time usually just a 10-40...

You need to run an oil that can withstand the stress of the gearbox...Unlike automotive engines (and even if there is no wet clutch) the engine oil also lubricates the transmission (common sump design). Yes all SxS have a gearbox (high, Low and Reverse gearing)...don't confuse this with the CVT belt which is the converter system from the engine to geared transmission. Automotive engine oil is not designed to work inside gearbox, but simply inside the engine. ATV/Moto/Snowmobile oil is designed to be able to withstand the gear pressure and not break it's film strength, which would cause metal to metal contact. This is why you can use ATV/Moto oil in the front diff of the Kawi and not gear oil.

Diesel oil typically does not contain friction modifiers (which cause wet clutch slip), but it also isn't designed to work inside a gearbox.

Full synthetics will drop your engine operating temp and also provide better protection against oxidation, viscosity loss and high shear strength.

You need to stick to the OEM recommended 40 weight, so a 0W-40 or 10W-40 ATV/Moto 4 stroke oil would be my recommendation.

I'm not the one to ask, I will run about anything in them but we use yamalube in the shop.

I can't the difference in one or another on anything. Run my race rhino as hard as any vehicle, no oil related issues yet.
