teryx with tracks

I bought tracks last Feb and when Todd @ hunterworks get done building my engine, it will be time to put the tracks back on.But i'd like to fiqure out how to keep the rpms from rev up all time.Do i need an overdrive, i have a kawasaki clutch kit already in it. Do i need to change it.Last year when running @ rev limiter 50mph i was only going 35mph, by gps .that sucks.......
i know they r heavy and going to slow me down some. I'm hoping the extra hp from Todd is going to help, i know on bottom end but i need to get top end also.

I would get an overdrive plate just to get the extra few miles an hour. What year Teryx, should get an ignition to get that extra 1000 rpm then you won't be bouncing off the rev limiter, or at least not as much. Both together should give you some extra top speed but between the 2 maybe 5 mph tops as a guess because you are running tracks. They kill your speed as you know but sure are nice to beable to play in snow. I really want a set, should have bought the last set that was for sale on here because don't want to pay the $5000 for a new set.

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum. I bought a set of used tracks this summer and will be mounting them later this month. Have you had any specific problems with the tracks that I should watch for? I'm fully aware that the top end speed is down by 1/2 due to the gear reduction.

Hello lake guy
The only problem i seemed to have was i had to keep ajusting one track on the rear.
I have the all season tracks for my machine, but they would still get hot if i rode on the dirt or even hardpacked snow or just the ice on the lake. good luck with yours.lots of fun

About how far did you run "dry" before they got hot? Did it cause a problem or were you just concerned about it? Where I live some snow mobile guys run scrapers on the ice to keep a flow of cool chips on the track slides. They all have shovels and pack the tunnel with snow when they take a break. Have you ever seen anything like this?

I don't know alot about the tracks, biggest thing is keeping them adjusted properly, inspect/maintain the rollers and sliders if it has any and try to keep them cool if you are riding alot and not in conditions that will keep them cool like hardpacked trails. I know that when they start to give you problems it is like the problems almost never go away. Which brand did you get and are they all seasons or winter only??? I know a few people with them on quads and worked really good but a few of them had some problems and I don't know if it was their mechanical skills or just the track system itself, I can't remember what brand they had but the 2 guys had 2 different brands and both had problems. Not to get you down before you try them out, just they are expensive and you get mad when they give you grief... good luck.

Best bet is to send your clutch to vforcejohn... Shimming the primary cover or an overdrive plate will only get you to around 72mph at 9200rpms with his clutch you'll get over 80mph worth of gearing.
