08 teryx backfires through intake

Hello i am new to this site. I have an 08 teryx with 66 hours on it. It is completely stock. Just over idle to about 1/4 throttle it backfires through the intake. I put an afr gauge on it and it goes way lean just over idle, like 20afr on rear cylinder 18afr front cylinder. So i ajusted a/f scews and can lower afr at idle but as soon as you step on it it goes way lean and backfires. So then i ajusted the valves intakes on rear cylinder were tight. I ajusted valves to speck and still having same problem. Do not know what to do next. I also checked for vacuum leaks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was going to ask if it only did it cold, so does it?

If all the time, sounds like you need some adjustable needles and raise them up.

Also what is your a/f reading at wide open throttle?

Seems to do it always, but started to do it when it got cold out side. I thought the same thing it's just cold blooded, but continues even after been riding for 1/2 hour 45min. It does it less as it warms up, but still does it. Thanks again!!!

You will need more fuel when the weather outside gets colder. I had to shim the needles in my carbs with the cold weather. It gives more fuel in the midrange. I also put bigger main jets in.

Adjust valves first then if that does not fix it either shim needle or get a jet kit with adjustable needle.

Don't ask me where to get the shims, I never bought any.

Well I shimmed the needles and it helped tremendously. Afr is 14 at just over idle. Afr is 12.5 at idle with f/a scews at 3.5 turns rear and 3 front. Still would like to be a little lower at just over idle to 1/4 throttle. I'll be calling Hunterworks tomorrow for a jet kit so I can get it perfect. Can't believe it's that far out from the factory. Hope I don't have to change jetting for summer and winter, maybe hunterworks tpi valves are the answer. Thanks for the help.

Your going to see your afr change as you go thru the different positions.

I get my main right, then half throttle then idle and let the rest go unless it is causing me a problem like a miss or something.
