4x4 help please!!

went for a little rip on the rex today and at one point after putting it in 4 wheel drive couldnt get it back int 2 wheel on dash indicator, fidgeted with the lever thats on front diff a little and managed to get it but when using the switch lever doesnt seem to be moving much and indicator isnt changing state when i actuate switch, gonna look into it further tomorrow but would like some ideas on what could be causing this from the knowledgeable ppl on this forum who may have had similar problem. Hope this makes sense as i had several refreshing beverages on the ride thanks in advance

Take the engine cover off and look on the front passenger side of the cover and look down in there, kinda right of the front of the CVT cover at the round vacuum canister, there is a cable coming off the bottom of it, flip the switch and see if the plunger is moving the cable. This has to be done with engine running
