Winch Cable

This is my first year using my Teryx for snow plowing, this last big storm we got was a good test. And I broke the cable. Is cable breaking a common thing? This is a new 4500 Viper max winch, and just used for snow plowing. Would the synthetic rope be a better way to go? or just keep some cable clamps and tools on hand?

cheap winch hookup

I used eye bolt in bolt hole for fairlead. Ran cable through pulley at plow and to eye bolt. Less stress on cable. I use a cheap winch and cable and no breakage with 60" plow, 09 Sport. We have 54 inches snow thus far in ND.

I broke my winch cable after one snow this year.
I was having trouble w/ the cable getting loose on the spool when there was a little slack in it or the blade was following a contour.
When that happened, the cable would bind, kink, & start to fray. Then it broke.
So to keep some tension on it, I rigged up a simple black bungee on it.
Worked pretty good, so I spent the money and made this set up.
I have a warn winch bumper, so my angle is different, but I'm sure you can rig something up on a stock setup. Maybe single pull and upwards to bumper top?
I haven't had a problem since.
Anyways, here's some pics.
