Thanks, I am going double check with the Kawasaki dealer that sold them to me.
I just tried to call your shop but got a recording. The 1.5" spacers I ordered were from ya'll and I need to find out what your procedure is for returning them for a refund. It would have been nice if they would have worked because they looked sweeeet on the Teryx.
Sorry to hear that you are having problems. I have the itp T-7 beadlocks and have no problems at all. What about having a machine shop mill the spacers to 1 inch or .5. Shouldn't cost that much Just an idea not sure if it will work or not.
Talked to 2 other kawasaki accesssory retailers about .5 & 1" spacers and was told that the .5 & 1" wouldn't hold up to the stress. the local machine shop said about the same thing. Not sure if I agree with them.
I have the spacers off and I put 2 12mm washers on each stud which gives 3/16 of an inch clearance now. it seemed to work/ride fine.
Update: based on what Hunterworks said I called the dealer where I bought the Teryx and explained what was going on and I suggested that the two front wheels were the wrong ones. They said the would look into it.
Called ITP, they suggested checking pressure in each tire. They said that for a Teryx I should be running 12-15 lbs up front. tried it and it didn't make much of a difference. They said that there should not be any clearance issues that they are aware of.
On my wheels I am running 5 lbs of air. I have not had a problem but I don't remember my backspacing etiher. I don't get the whole thing about not holding up to the stress. I run a 1 1/2 spacer on my 1 ton dually it is just that a spacer seems kind of odd to me.
If for some reason you cannot get the proper wheel spacer, sell your wheels, and buy the proper offset rim. I got the same wheels, and you can get them I believe from 1/4 to almost 1" offset.
What size wheels do you have 12's or 14's and what tires 26's or 27's. I would be very interested to know what backspacing/ offset you are running. If it turns out it is different than mine I will go back to the kawi dealer and try and get them to replace the front wheels.
After reading all of the posts on this, i'm still a little confused. I am looking to purchase a ITP kit using the SS108 12" wheel with 26x9x12 and 26x11x12 mudlite xtr tires. What should my offset on the wheels be so the tires wont rub the tie-rod ends. I don't want to much of an offset due to mud splashing in the cab.
When I ordered mine through the dealer, they said that for the SS108's their is one standard offset for the front and back for the Teryx. I don't remember what it was nor did I write it down. What I can tell you is that if you get the 12" SS108's for a Teryx, you should not have a problem. What I found out through trial and error is that the 27X10X12 ITP Mudlite XL tires in front were the issue. I sold those tires to a buddy of mine and switched to 27X9X12 XTR's in front and 27X11X12 XTR's rear and it solved the problem. I now have just over .5" inch clearance between tire and tie rod. As posted earlier spacers were not an option because of space in my toyhauler. With all of that stated you should be fine with your tire/wheel choice.
I had the exact same problem with the 27X11X12 in the front. I put on 1.5" wheel spacers and found out it was harder to steer and when I hit a rut the steering wheel would spin out of control which caused a lot of pain when my hand was in the way. I since put on 27X9X12 up front and do not have a problem. My own analysis was even if you ordered an off set to allow the clearance for the front tires, the tire and rims would be in the same postion as if your were running spacers (1", 1.5" etc.) so I decided to go with a smaller tire. JMO.
I had the same problem on my 09 sport with 10" itp's on front. I just filed the rough edge from the casting of the tie rod end. it will still rub a little, but not enough to make a gouge. running about 10lbs air in the front and only rubs when the front end is hitting hard.I have about 40 hours on it and no problems.
a 5" inside offset will allow the tire to rub unless you use a 1" spacer. Make sure that when you order your wheels you get a 4" inside offset MAX. As far as the spacer issue, you will not see a 1" spacer fail and I have yet to see anyone release a .5 spacer.
Every manufactures measurements on the offsets are slightly different, the offsets listed above are for the Douglas Wheels.
It is AMAZING the difference that power steering makes on the machine. I have it on my 08 and not yet on the 09 and hope to get it on the 09 ASAP... Just short on coin right now. DOH!!
Yes, the Electra-Steer will significantly reduce bump steer, so your thumbs wont get ripped off. Also, your arms will never tire. It works great for oversized wheels and tires or if you have wheel spacers or a long travel kit. It reduces steering effort by 35-40%.
