You're going to need valves too. Several reasons cause this, dirt, needing to adjust them sooner, crappy valves, running lean which causes the valves to get very hot and weak valve springs.

Most likely it is just the intakes, last two engines I built both had the intake valves sucked up in the head.

Good valves are pricy and good springs range from $110 to $250

You might want to have the valve seats recut to make sure they are good to go.

If you like call me and I will explain any of this.

I had them done at 1000 miles and now it has 1400 on it. This is BS.

No way the valves are still good if you are having to adjust them that often.

Common sense says if the are getting tight then they are moving closer to the rocker arm, how is that possible? Cause they are deforming and getting sucked up into the head.

You need new valves and springs too.

Is detonation an issue with these engines?

I've seen many beat the seats so badly (detonating, or springs with not enough seat pressure) that the valve lash wouldnt stay set.

Wear, or improper geometry can do that, as well.

Detonation is not usually a issue with these engines.

What ever is causing it, when it happens best to just buy good valves and springs, re-cut the seats and be done with it.

What is the problem that this is going on at such low miles?

I thought atv type motors are to have the valves adjusted at 10 hours then around every 100 hours afterwards. I'm adjusting my oldest 750 motor for the first time at 1,050 miles, as it is now only starting if its choked.

I know the big logging company around my home town adjusts the valves on all thier 4 stroke quads once a year and they have sold machines to the public that are running well after 20 years. These machines get used almost daily, and although maintained, are often riden hard and put away wet.
