Installed CDI and have developed a miss at low speeds.

Ok guys.. i have a bone stock Teryx LE. stock air box, stock exhaust. Only mods are a Dynatek Non-programmable CDI..

After installing the dyna I developed a miss or stumble at low speeds of say 10-25 mph only if you can keep the throttle steady. I removed the dyna and installed the stock CDi sure enough it was gone. After reading several post on different forums i discovered that the result of the miss is due to a lean condition caused by the advanced timing on the dyna cdi. The cure seams to be rejetting for more fuel. Not wanting to spend alot of cash and trying to keep everything stock as possible i opted for a 58$ Dynojet jet kit for the teryx.

I followed the instructions to a T. Im at sea level so i installed the new DJ needle jets, clip on groove #2, fuel mixture screws 3 full turns out from seated. Put everything back together and guess what same engine miss. Ok i popped the top off the needle jets again put the dynojet diapram springs in. same engine miss. I fabbed up a mini screw drive that i could easily adjust the mixture screws without dissasembly and set the screws to 2 turns out. same miss. Tried 1 turn out on each carb. same thing. After trying every possible combination with the needle jets, diaphram springs, and mixture screw settings, i decided to change the oem main jets for the main jets in the dynojet kit. Forget to mention i tried moving the clips on the needles to groove 1 and then 3 with no dice.

I installed the dynojet main jets. Still had the miss but i did gain a whopping 4 mph by going from oem mains to dynojet mains. After i installed the dynojet mains i tried each mixture setting again, 1, 2, and 3. Still have the miss. At this point ive given up. After all this jetting I put the stock CDI in and bingo runs smooth and no miss.

Dont get me wrong, my teryx runs hard and strong reaching speeds on the speedo at almost 70 mph with the overdrive clutch plate. The miss is just annoying is all. Any recomendations from you all??? My plugs dont indicate a lean condition they are more of a almond color. ANy risk of doing damage with this miss? Anyone have a spare dynatek I could rent for a day just to make sure its jetting or bad dynatek CDI??

Get an Air Fuel Ratio meter you are almost there but not quite there yet. The meter will help get it right much easier. You need to tune the idle screws while it is running and mine are not the same turns out, the A/F Meter makes that a lot easier.

I agree, the gauge will tell the tale for sure. Might need a larger pilot jet.

I know what you mean. I think of it like I do about a microwave. How did I heat stuff before it?

I would not attempt to do any jetting without one.
