Sounds like cam lobe is going away, are you loosing power? Is it just one side of the motor? How much adjustment each time?

It started at about 100 hrs. It was getting hard to start when cold. Once cranked and warmed up it would crank & run great the rest of the day. It got progressively worse, untill it wouldn't crank at all. When I checked the valve settings there was no clearance on the intake valves. I reset the valves and it will crank and run great for about 20 to 30 hours.
I believe the valve seats are getting beat into the head or the valves are cupping. 4 adjustments at .005 bring me to a total of .020. Something is fixing to break!

Intake valve go bad kind of qick with the stock single valve springs, even more so if you have a higher reving CDI. Time to take it apart and put better valve springs and valves in it. At the same time might as well go a better piston and cam too

I guess I got a lemon! When it goes down I guess I'll install a big bore kit. I wonder how long it will last.

Until it don't start anymore. lol Not really, you do take a chance after while because the more it sucks up into the valve seat the less seat pressure and the valves has a chance of droping because it's not staying on the seat when it sit back down on them. Then again I have seen them sucked up so far into the seat there was no adjustment left.

Good point. I think if it happens again I may try shiming the springs about .020 and try to buy some time.

You would have to take the heads off to shim the springs,so put better spings in it and new valves.

Guess what! It died on a ride Sat nite and I got pulled out by a Rhino.
I tore it down Wed. and found the valves pulled way down. My machinist says it was running lean but the valves in both heads were worn the same. I need some better valves! Any ideas?
