Tapping head...

I am having the machine shop tap the rear head for the drain on the YFZ can. I think I may have messed up and had him tap for 1/2" pipe threads to 1/2" hose barb. I think the brass barb will not allow the 1/2" hose to attach well due to the carbs. being in the way. What would be a good alternative to the straight 1/2"-1/2" fitting I have. Can I 90 degree off the head and then 90 degree up again to clear the carbs?

That is what I have got to go look at a machine still together to make sure where to tap my friend ran into that same thing, where did you tap ? onnce he put his carbs back on it made him have to bend his hose and flattened it causing it to be restricted, let me know how it works out and maybe send a couple of pics

I am thinking a 1/2" NPT to AN-8 fitting in the head coupled to a AN-8 120 degree bend to a 1/2" barb will do the trick.

Tapp into the casting pour hole on the driverside of the rear head. Run a stubby 90deg or a straight with a VERYshort piece of hose to connect with your YFZ brake plumbing. Just like you said keep it as close to the head as possable or you will kink it when you put all the covers back on.

Your best bet for a return for the breather is to cap off what you had the machine shop tap and purchase the Hunterworks fitting. First off it allow the oil to drain into a lower location and it is also 5/8 and utilizes 5/8 hose which drains better.

If tapping the head doesn't work I'll look into the HW fitting.

Has anybody returned the oil back into the valve cover, I was looking at the Muzzy valve covers and they already have a tapped hole, just a thought looks like it would work and also lube the rocker arms at the same time.

We tried that first...too small of a fitting...but it does help release crankcase pressure so we are playing with a breather on both valve covers...but it never worked for draining oil back on our 840...
