teryx 840 at high altitude has no power

I dropped my jetting and all just as you would think. The teryx runs okay but has no power. Is it because of improper jetting or just the altitude. 12,000 feet in colorado. the 2010 brute force with us doesn't run well either and its fuel injected.

When you get a high altitude what does one do, does it just lug or miss or what? I have never been bothered by that in Louisianna, some of this state is below sea level, just all ways hear about the mountians, need more air and less fuel or what ? just curious

Altitude will affect your jetting.

Link to carbs and jetting
Hopefully the link helps.

CV carbs are made to adjust to altitude changes and air density......but,not a large change . You will have to re-jet.......12,000feet.....ITs a wonder you can breathe ,and do the same things you did at,say 2500 ft

Where in CO are you? I'm in Colo Springs.

Less air density is not only a carb issues but a cylinder pressure issue too. Less compression = loss in power even with corrected jetting. This is why I love to go to ride locations closer to sea level.... it's like gaining a big bore kit.

We are at St Elmo. We rode to the top of Mount Anterone yesterday. 14,2???. I'm jetted at 165 front 170 rear on the 840. It's running and we have had a great time....but I seriously have like half the power I'm used to in Missouri. No pullin the front wheels here!!

You are right you may have only 50% of the power you would have at sea level. There are many sites on the web that will calculate power loss at altitude, more importantly density altitude.

So this may be a dumb question but.......is it suffice to say that even machines off the show room floor in mountains are much less powerful than those at or near sea level? Or is there a way to give the guys in the mountains a kick in the pants?

Yes they are not as powerfull. Technically.... Only forced induction i.e. Turbo/ super charger can over come atmospheric pressures. Then nitrous.
