What Cams are you guys using?

As I'm looking at this 840 build, I'm considering whether I want to do cams or not. I ride primarily in the dunes and I use the throttle basically like a light switch. I do have a Dalton Clutch kit so i can weight it accordingly. I just wonder for my type of riding what will be the best combination. I will NOT be doing head work aside from just cleaning/polishing up some of the casting ridges. Without bigger valves, I wonder if the cams are even worth it.

A 840 kit with no cams is like peanut butter with no jam. You most definately will want them as you will be just wasting a BBK without them. Don't even know if anyone will be able to tell you what it is like, cause probalby no one has ever done it.

Thumbs up

The cams and the heads is where all the power is made. Definately do the cams.

I am using AMR XX cams and I have been told by every builder that I have talked to that the cams are the very most important part of the 750 V-twin, I myself would never dream of doing an 840 without changing cams and valve springs.

I knew a guy that put a muzzy 840 kit in with stock cams. It was just barely faster than a teryx with no engine mods. The cams will keep your valves open longer allowing your engine to breath. I would recomend FST stage III, but I would not mix and match kits. If you go with FST get his cams or if you go with AMR use his cams. I would not recomend Muzzys kit. I have seen it VS FSTs .... I am not talking about power I am talking about how its made.

How it's made?

The cams are both Web, FST is Wiseco pistons and Muzzy's is JE.

I think as far as quality is concerned they would be basically equal, actually I would lean more toward JE on quality.

But the Muzzy is mild set up, I'm just talking about quality not power here.

I didnt like there piston design (JE) v/s FST(Weisco)and especially how they did the cylinders... Just my opinion.

What's the best place to find out about the fst kit. The only stuff I see on the fst site is suspension and cage stuff. Am I looking at the wrong fst?

I would reccomend you to call Glenn at AMR (after midnight racing) 330-347-6800, but as far as FST you will need to look under four stroke tech not FST
