Thumbs up Sunflower Mine Trail

Has anyone ever done this trail? We did it yesterday and it is a blast if you are into rock crawling, slow going, scratching, bashing fun.

We found this waiting for us inside one of the bldgs. Be careful out there exploring. He never moved, but he did keep an eye on us and we did not mess with him to try to make him move.

It is on the Beeline Hwy. going north/east up to Payson. Sycamore Creek/Mt. Ord road just past mile marker 222. Turn left and go 1.2 miles to the cattle guard on your right and that is the Sunflower Mine Trail loop. The roads are 25, 25A, 3722, 201A, 201, and then back to 25.

gps - 33.55.12.0 north 111.27.50.9 west

I think I did this trail many years ago in my tacoma. There are a bunch of trails north of 4 peaks, but I believe that the bushnell tanks area is closed.

Yes, there is primitive camping. I have seen toyhaulers and motorhomes parked in there. I tried to attach the gps tracks for the area but this website will not allow that so if you would like to pm me your email address I can shoot it to you that way. Or you can go check out www.ridingarizona.com where I have the routes loaded on to their system. They have most every trail in AZ saved on gps files for free downloading.

I have the Garmin Colorado 400t, but still have not found anyone else who has one so that we can share maps. (One of the cool features of the Colorado series). I have seen some great deals for GPS's in the paper.

Maybe one day we will ride together. I am doing the Box Canyon Ride tomorrow.
