I am putting on my dalton clutch kit and think it is time to take the thin shim out of the secondary so that the belt rides in that perfect area. When i first got the cover off i kinda thought wow that belt seems loose. I pulled the thin shim out of the secondary and put it all back together and now it seems to be to tight. What will happen if it is to tight. If seems to me that when i start it, the primary will be spinng the secondary making me think that when i go to put it in gear it is going to make a loud clunck. I was thinking that when at idle with no throdle that the shaft on the primary would be slipping not spinnig the secondary until i gas it . Is this right or wrong? Just whe i turn the motor over the primary spins the secondary. Does this mean my belt is to tight???

I am wondering the same, heard the belt squeals at idle. I will be putting a clutch kit in soon as my standard bore kit is a couple days away. Soon be tearing into it. That is if I get my crop in the ground first. Crow

wats up codyo,i was told and have had very good luck with shiming secondary so the belt sticks out of pully shiv 1/16 to 1/8 of a inch, i put cluthh kit on a 2010 the other night and belt stuck out of shiv a 1/8 inch and it was perfect.i dont what happens if belt is too tight though, but secondary will spin freely when machine is in neutral, usually when i stop i put machine in neutral anyway or it will squeal a little.

The squeal is from the cogs of the belt being held tight against the primary shaft before it starts to engage, ussualy not a big deal. I have found that a belt adjusted to 22mm deflection will squeal on occassion. I personally set the deflection to be at 24-25mm to eliminate any squeal not because it will cause damage but because it can get annoying.

Hunter i took the thin shim out and now the belt is like what merlin said his was. When i put it all back together the belt seems much tighter which may be fine but when i put the machine in nuteral and turn the primary by hand the shaft in the primary (which is basically the motors crank) gets enough tracktion on belt and then turns the secondary and i was wondering if it should slip on the motors cran shaft. I understand that when you nail the gas the primary closes up on the belt which them makes the primary turn the secondary. I wil pm you my phone number. please call. Any other replies will help. TY
