On 3/6/10 I am purchasing a new 2008 Teryx LE for $7299 (OTD) w/ 6 months no interest from Extreme Powersports in Columbus GA. I have researched all of the Teryx forums and have determined the following:

Must installs before using: Plenum rings, siphon kit, 09 CVT exhaust duct, air filter and intake. Do you agree? Any more must haves? Which brand?

Probably should install soon: skid plates, master cylinder cover. Agree? Which brand?

Nice add ons but not 100% necessary from the start: radiator fan upgrade, fan switch, water pump impeller (do you have to drain the system?): Agree? Which brand?

Trick stuff: Whip mount, 2" lift kit, winch, 4 point harness, passenger grap handle. Agree? Which brand?

Not sure of: CVT filter - there are mixed opinions.

The 2 main problems I see w/ the 2008 Teryx are the heat problem and the gas pedal problem.

Regarding the gas pedal it appears that installing a 2009 spring and adding a smaller inner spring may work. I also see some use a pedal extension. I am 6'3" tall. Any other ideas. Does anyone just leave the setup stock and live w/ it?

Regarding the HEAT PROBLEM, it is clear that you have to remove the windshield in warmer months. I don't want to go with the half a** approach and stuff towels under the seat to stop the entrance of heat. I want to solve the problem in a professional looking manner. Can you install the 2009 factory heat shields and rubber gasket w/o modification. Does this really help? Does anyone know the part numbers. How easy of a job is it? At lot of you also seem to use aftermarket heat shield applications. Where exactly should they be placed. Which brand? Any of you have pictures? Do I really need to do anything over and above removing the windshield? How bearable or unbearable is the heat problem in 90 degree weather?

Also, am a little confused on what range I should use to avoid damaging the CVT belt? Can someone explain how to correctly use the shifting options.

Any comments and advice will be truly appreciated.

i bought a new 08 and didn't buy any of the must have's and no problems yet . If u can find a base model for way cheaper i would go with that instead. I bought the LE and the only thing that i didn't take off is the guage and cup holders.

many posters claim the pedal position causes discomfort when going slow and that the pedal bounces.

I Have had an 08 for about two years now just raise the windshield up about 8-10 inches and it still keeps the wind down and it eliminates the heat problem the gas pedal is a little crappy but once you get used to it and figure out how to position your leg it aint to bad I definetly wouldnt consider a 2010 strictly because they look like crap

new 08

Hey there, bought my 08 le new in oct.08 has 963 miles on it ,first two things i did was add dynatek cdi and Hunterworks carb kit, great additions really helps wake it up for low bucks, and Todd is very helpfull. The 09 heat flaps will work and do help, taking the windshield off helps a bunch on the heat also, as far as fans waterpumps etc. i dont have any of that stuff and have not had any problems. Change the oil per hr. schedule or even more often, and clean the air filter often , have fun.

By rubber flaps do you mean the 3 2009 rubber pieces that fit on top of the engine?

What is an OD plate?

flaps

yea the flaps are the rubber over motor, and at the front of the bed to keep mud debri down. Overdrive plate goes on the primary clutch does raise the top speed but the biggest advantage for me, is it raises the speed you can go in low range, much much better for most trail riding!!
