Ok, I am sure everyone is familiar with those retaining springs that are put on the pipes when you install an exhaust...am I crazy or is there a tool to assist with this?

You know what I am referring to? It is the spring that holds one section of pipe to another.

I've made my own before. I took a flat screwdriver and ground the tip so it was V shaped. made it a simple task to push the spring onto the holder.

There are tools for this as well, I suggest a Tucker Rocky catalog search, if you want to go that route, but you could make one as I did, or if you need a hook type tool, just take an awl and heat the tip and carefully bend it into a hook.

I like to use the good old fashioned vise-grips. All it takes is a little elbow grease. But the home made tools sound like a great idea also.

I like JOybo's idea. I have always used a pair of needle nosed pliers and a fair share of cuss words.

Ya looks like the needle nose worked...dropped the pipes off for ceramic coating and should have them back next week and ready to be wrapped

Actually I used more cuss words prior when I was using the screwdriver. For the first time in my life, the needle nose actually worked great.

I will be honest, I am very exciting to get this thing done and out on the dunes or trails. It is begging to be driven for sure!

did you have a groove cut in the screwdriver? I used to use vice grips but where I would crush the metal on the spring hook it would break off right there. Needlenoses just gave me skinned knuckles.. I finally did the screwdriver mod and that just worked bitchen. I can take a picture if you want

In the sledding world we use a T-Handle Tool, with a hook on the end. Bought one at a sled dealer.

Yeah, I have seen those and I made my own with an awl. I liked the screwdriver mod as it was easier to use on the springs on a 250R because of clearance issues using the T handle type.
