Just my own rant on Diesels, Fords problem started when Ford dumped the 7.3L for the POS 6.0L. They should have stuck with the 7.3, made some improvements to update it and probably would have a good solid engine still. I do lots of diesel work and personally if wanted a diesel truck I would be buying a 2003 F-Super Duty with the 7.3L! The 6.0L and 6.4L are nothing but grief, 5.9L cummins around 2005 when they changed their injection system, now have injector problems, 6.7L is just starting to come in now for the same - and yes everyone complains on the old Cummins history of great fuel mileage but that seems to be gone now with the 6.7L - but like the Ford 6.4L - you need an exhaust / intake / and programmer, and now you may get some mileage out of them. I have actually found that the newer Duramax is or seems pretty reliable now, early years had their problems! As for buying a new truck, it would not be a diesel - period! As for gas engines now, thats another story!
