Hey guys,

Well im deployed and have a 08 teryx. we have 2, one runs like a champ now and they both have new fuel pumps. the other will get up and go but not as fast and when going for alil while it will start bogging out, backfire quite a bit, and exhaust gets very loud. I have alot of problems with these things probly because of all the sand that blows around, cheap gas and 6500ft elevation. Please help

Is your jetting correct for the elevation?
Do you have the $20 plemum rings to protect from sand getting into the carbs?

Nope I dout any of that has been done to it. How do I adjust the "Jetting", or is that a ecu thing. The army just buys these, mount things on them and go. So im very new with these.

The fact that you are deployed brings a whole new aspect. I've been there and done that. . If you're supply network is anything like ours was ... you will need to tap into your "shadetree" genetics. Make sure the plenums (where the carbs connects to the airbox) have a good seal. tighten the best you can and wrap with (do you have F4 tape) where possible. Doubt your transportation folks are maintaining these, most likely it's on the unit top keep them up. Getting your hands on some jets is gonna be a pain depending on you location.
When we were over ... we would add a tbsp of alcohol to each full tank due to the water in the gas that you most certainly have.

What would be nice is if SOME OF THE VENDORS would be willing to send you a jet or two in good faith to help a deployed service member. Maybe even a high volume water pump impeller and gasket. Repair/Service manuals used to be available online.

Keep it simple and work from there.If you are running low octane gas you will have more heat in the motor and things like setting the valves would be number one on my list. You can add 1 oz. of Acetone to each gal. of gas to bring it up 2-3 octane.As far as jetting,four 1.5 inch holes in the top of your air box lids will give you all the air you can use.It may be more then you need for the right A/F ratio so you will just cover one hole at a time until it runs good.

Afghan dust is like no other and gets into everything. I'd avoid cutting any holes anywhere. Good filtration is key. It's been proven over and over that the stock Teryx box flows plenty.
It's probably something simple like crappy gas or bad filtration. I'd do the way simple checks before I took into anything crazy. Don't need to "modify" anything. Just get some jets somehow .... VENDORS? HELLO VENDORS?

I would not have a issue giving you a jet kit but I don't think this will fix your issue and please don't start popping holes in the airbox. It will surely not run right if you do.

As to what the issue is, hard to say. Could be bad coils, could be water, could be lack of fuel, could be the top end is wore out and when it gets hot the metal expands and you lose power, could be valve adjustment, could be the valves are sucking up in the head.

Point is it is just too much that it can be and you need a Kawasaki specific mechanic to figure it out or a person who is willing to learn about this vehicle.

Absolutely Todd. And after I thought about it ... with two stock Teryx's I doubt it's jetting. This because one is running fine ... Im sure they both have the same jetting.
It's really to bad Kawi didn't add a mechanism to be able to drain the tank with it in the machine.

Thanx guys.
Im going to try the valve adjustment. It has 290hrs and I dout it has been done before. We also just recieved 2 new ignition coils and some spark plugs so im gonna see how that works out for us. These vehicles are very important to us.

290 hours and no valve adjustment yet, for sure there is part of your problem.
