Quite a few of us are mud riders, and I see a lot of pictures on this sight of guys with large aggressive tires.

The question I have is, how hard are they to turn?
Do you have enough Power?
Is it hard on your belt to run such big tires?

I was thinking of running a set of 27" Zilla's, but I was worried that I might not have the power to turn them in the swamp.

What do you use and what do you think of them?

I run 27" executioners. So far so good. I'm sure they rob power and top end speed. I think ultimately you want to run a large tire clutch kit. For myself top end is not the end all be all. As long as I can keep up with the pack I'm good. I run matted out at around 78km. No upgrades on the motor as of yet. Soon enough. Turning this particular tire is not bad at all. I had tens on the front of my quad before this so guess I'm used to used to it. Don't really wanna parallel park the thing all day. LOL

Get a clutch kit it will help protect belt slipping. You will have a higher engagement.

The fear I have though is that larger more aggressive tires will suck all my power in the mud.

I want to know what people are running and their opinions of performance.

Your only going up one inch and zillas are less aggressive than mud zillas. The zillas are fairly light for a mud tire. Now if you went with 32s, that would be a different story.

I am running 30" ITP XXL's and had them on with and without the 840 kit and the rex turned them okay. I have a EPI clutch kit which was not the smart way to go and I have grenaded a few belt, partially self inflected. The best advice that I have recieved was by DragonFire racing and that is if you are riding slower then 15mph always run in low gear. Since then I have had good luck. I will be going with a VFJ clutch soon which will also help out hopefully. If you are looking for a good mud tire Silverbacks and Outlaws are probably your best choices.

My friend is running 28" mudzilla's on his 09 rex and has had great luck, no issues with the belt or power. In my eyes always go big.

even when just cruising around slow low gear is a good idea, i know its a pita to switch back and forth but it does save the belt IMO, i just wish these things had a 2 speed trnny u could shift on the fly, that would be sweeeeet

You got that right. In thick stuff or even in tight trails your belt will thank you for it. LOW and SLOW.

with the 27 zilla you will be fine. Just get a good mudder clutch. if you arent going to get over 10mph leave in low and if you are going to stay stopped for more that a minute put it in neautral. Dont try be a hero in reverse and if you can't turn your tires just stop - get winched out.

I am running 28" mudzillas with no issues as of yet. i run in low most of the time on trails under 20mph.
i lost only 2 mph top end according to my dash speedo, but can feel some low end loss im hoping a dalton clutch will fix that problem.

Thanks for the advise Doug, but that's not what I was looking for. I was asking guys what tires they are using, and what they think about them.

I wasn't trying to get advise on how to drive through mud. Just input on rubber.

I ran 27" mud bugs (they have worn well) and now have 28 zillas for next season.

I am running 32s with a v-force john clutch mod with stock springs and weights. Also, I installed a gear reduction kit and solved almost all my belt/ low end problems. Dont run a 32 inch tire with a stock clutch it wont hold up and a mudder clutch doesn't help any better. The 32s will sling some mud but the ride is very choppy. I no longer run the 32s but am running a 31inch truck mud tire (taller tire). IMO anything over a 30" tire is to much for a stock bike, not saying it wont handle it, that it just wont hold up.

I am running 28x10 gorilla silverbacks on the front and 28x12 silverbacks on the rear . I have had no problems so far .

So, i guess what I'm hearing is that you can run the same tires on this RUV as you can on any large ATV?

I didn't thing anyone would try and Run Silverbacks on a Teryx.

I think my next set would be 28s backs. I think for an all around tire "size" I think that would sit well on this thing. Anything bigger as some people already mentioned you have to get into too many mods to manage the tires size. If your after a mud tire I have heard nothing but good things. But you pay the price. I'm sure you know what they're worth. The set I have on now are only 27's and measure up smaller.
