Actually that may come in handy if someone wanted to install a bright spot or something. Probably would work out nice in the dark desert if you have to backup.

A customer of mine tried to use this pig tail and promptly burnt out the switch or something along the line. He said it came on for about 15 seconds and that was that. I would suggest using this lead to power a relay switch ran to more power....

Is that for a reverse light or a backup alarm? Alot of the mules have backup alarms installed for contruction use. If the switch burns out quick running a light, I would think that it would be for a backup beeper which don't take much power to operate. By the looks of the plug, a backup alarm should plug right in to it.

My son also installed a 55W lite from Wal-Mart. I don't remember what it cost, but I know it wasn't much. It really lites up the whole area to the rear & has been working real well so far. I believe the description on the package said "Tractor & Implement light" so it is designed to light a large area for backing up. The only problem I noticed is that it will have to be relocated if I later install Muzzys.

Backup Light

This has probably been discussed over & over, but I have not been on the site for awhile. I bought a relay & my son is going to wire it for me. We have the light installed on the frame. Is there something special we'll have to do so we don't create a dead short & burn the light out? I have heard that mounting it to plastic works, but would like to leave it where it is if possible. Any suggestions?

On my king quad I used a piece of rubber radiator hose that had the same inside diameter as the frame. Cut a slit in it and wrapped it around the frame and clamped my light to it. I havent put one on my teryx yet but i bet it would work fine. It may move if you jump and land really hard but the one on my king quad has worked fine and its been through hell!

Thanks nyteryx, What you say sounds logical if the connection is made through the ground, which it apparently is. Hopefully my son will get at hooking it up this week & I'll let you know. We originally hooked the pigtail directly to the 35 watt light & it worked great for awhile then became intermittent. We found out that the amperage was way too high for the micro switch & it's been disconnected since. I haven't been on the forum for some time as I am battling cancer & had my hours cut on my main job, so I took an additional job as a greeter at Wal-Mart (I know.....another low in my life, but it helps pay bills). Never dreamed I'd be working 6 days a week this late in life. As far as the light moving on the frame, probably not a problem....I'm pushing 71, & though I love speed, I'm nowhere near the offroader most of you are.

I wouldnt think of any person working anywhere in life a "low". At least you are working. When I first hooked my light up on my king I didnt isolate the mount from the frame and it worked for a while then it quit working. you may want to double check you switch as if you still have your light hooked to your frame it may be grounding your switch saying its bad when it should be isolated. Just a thought before you buy a new switch. Good luck!

I dont think this circuit is meant to carry much current through the switch its on . with that in mind I got ahold of an LED style reverse light, its all plastic and mounts in a plate I made using a rubber grommet. it fits well under the muzzy's and above the hitch, Put it on plugged it in and its been working ever since off the reverse position of the shifter.:D

i would suggest installing a relay. easy to do and no worries about over amping the switch. most led lights are exspensive. with a relay you can istall what ever light you want. or just put a switch up front and run a ew wire.

True on the LED cost, Crab.
I was ordering a slew of lights for another project from awdirect.com and threw it on the order. A standard relay can be wired to work off 12volt or ground. So one could utilize that switch off the shifter either way. just be aware that engaging the reverse switch takes that circiut to ground.

I have a 2012 teryx 4 and my wire harness has two wires, both wires are hot when the ignition is on. I cant find how to make this work with reverse. I think this is wired for a pull behind sprayer. Could use some help.

I have an 08 Teryx and its the same deal... Both leads have power but only about 4.X volts... and then when its shifted into Reverse OR Low & High it goes to 12v....

I need to find a REVERSE ONLY signal...
