That is the question. I was stuck to my belly and a RZR with a synthetic tried to pull me out but the synthetic winch rope snapped like floss.

After watching the "rope" (Brand new first pull) melt when pulling a 400EX I don't trust them. I'll stick with cable thank you.

From what I read the synthetic is only preferred for plowing. The constant spooling in and out for plowing can fray the steel cable. Lets face it, if you're not plowing and want maximum strength for pulling your machine out of the mud you have to go with the steel cable. Also, never rap the cable around a tree. It will permanently kink the cable. Always keep a separate steel or synthetic strap with loops on your machine for wrapping the tree. Then hook your winch hook thru the loops.

We put Amsteel (patented) on our winches. We see about 50/50 steel synthetic. I also see most guys using a chain and snatch block. It does not put as much stress on the machine.
Any other ideas?
