I have a warn rt40 winch on my teryx and we do a lot of mud riding. Winching 5-10 times a day not uncommon. I will get a few winches out her no problems. The mud builds up in the cap and you make the mistake of free spooling and it won't lock back in or partically locks and lets go under extreme loads.
Anyone else had this problem? I'm ready to garage sale this piece of shit and buy a reliable superwinch. I do more work on this winch than i do on the teryx.

Not any more. I pulled the cap and found the spring clip assy bent ( piece that engaes the pins), so the pins are worn right off. I bettin the gear that the pins engage is done also. A very poor design. Warn sudgest i send the winch to edmonton to have it repaired. By the time i remove it and send it at my cost, i mise well fix it myself.

My warn did the same thing... I tossed the thing and got a 4000 lb winch from Princess Auto for $250 and haven't had issues yet and it gets regular use
