Last week I was climbing some hills in the bush in low and heard some clunking.Kind of like when the Engine Brake Controler activates but a little louder.It progresively got louder until it sounded like something was going to let go .Clunk.....clunk almost like it was coming out of gear but still hook up.Now I am thinking WTF.So I throw it in High and the sound goes away.I went on teryx forums and did some searching and found that a couple of guys have blown their transmissions to pieces.Others would pop out of gear and the dealer would readjust the linkage.I was hoping that mine would n't grenage like ive been hearing so I did a quick adjustment and now she dont make any noise in low anymore ......thank god......this is a warning for the do it yourselfers with no warranty like me.lol

Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii. I have been reading this forum for several months and really appreciate the quality discussions.
My 2008 Teryx has 24 hours on the hour meter. A few weeks ago while on a ride up on Mauna Kea Mountain (11,000 feet elevation), clanking noises started coming out of the transmission while in low gear, going uphill (my wife counted 85 occurrences). The noise did not appear while going downhill, or in high range. I did not have problems with the transmission slipping out of gear and the cable was properly adjusted.
My dealer is first rate and I highly commend their integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction. After a lengthy period of diagnosis, the dealer informed me that there was too much “gear lash” when the unit left the factory. This points to a manufacturing defect and will therefore be covered under warranty. Apparently, there are factory shims that are used to dial in the correct spec.
When it comes to machines, “strange noises” are never a good thing.

Fours years later.... my 08 is running just fine. The engine seizure came from the oil ports being blocked with gasket adhesive (sloppy work) during the manufacturing process. I am convinced my machine was manufactured on a Friday! Kawasaki covered the work under warranty. The Teryx has served me well.
